Best baby toys – what to buy

Every baby toy shopper wants to buy the best baby toys! This article tells you a little something about the factors you need to consider while buying toys for the little ones.

Firstly, you need to grasp the fact that, toys mean more than simple pastime for babies. Here are a few things that babies do while playing with toys.

  • They learn a little about controlling the movements of their body. So, playing with toys is the first step for a baby to learn how to control things around him or her
  • They learn how to work something out. Moreover, they get some orientation on solving simple looking problems as well as developing ideas  They start developing muscle control along with co-ordination
  • Babies start developing their power of imagination

According to a research, children spend roughly 90 seconds with average looking toys. When they’ve got a good look at it, and when they’ve felt it, tasted it, sniffed it, and shaken/banged it, they usually decide to discard the toy. May be you have noticed that this disappoints the parents.

So what can we conclude here? Does the baby have a very short span of attention? Is the baby not smart enough? Not at all! Within the 90-seconds span, the baby has fully "road tested" the toy using all its senses.

Have you ever noticed what kind of things a typical parent wants while shopping for baby toys? Unfortunately, we hardly are aware of the things that make best baby toys. Parents these days go after electronic toys.

Many do not realize the fact that electronic toys make more sense for an older child. And did you know that flashing lights offer a very short lived amusement for a baby? Whether you like it or not… these things hardly contribute much to the mental development of 0-2 year old children.

So, when you hit toy stores for buying the best baby toys, you should deem into these questions.

  • Is that toy suitable for holding the child's attention?
  • Can the toy survive the "cruelty" that babies inflict?
  • Is the toy too complicated – children deserve solid simplicity?
  • Is the toy challenging for the baby? If it is the baby is likely to get bored with it.
  • Will it push the child to think/stimulate originality and imagination?
  • Will the child be engaged in play and not simply a spectator?
  • Can that toy be in multiple ways?
  • Does that toy offer a novelty value? Is the toy different the ones the baby they already have?
  • Does it offer "fun appeal" which encourages parents as well to join in the play?
  •

And talking of ‘fun appeal’, there are basically 3 appeals you need to consider. When it comes to choosing the best baby toys, you need to first choose the visual appeal. For a baby, there’s perhaps nothing more attractive than toys with visual attractiveness.

The next one is physical appeal. Babies love touching many things. That’s because they like to learn different kinds of textures. So, buy toys that help them develop these perceptions. The benefit of touching helps increase the amount of perception that the child experiences. Buy soft, rugged, grooved, bumpy, wrinkled… whatever you like. And finally, buy toys that have auditory appeal, since sound is the first sense developing in babies.
